Sculpture

With this series of six sculptures, I strove to evoke a make-believe landscape, populated by eerie figures reminiscent of a comic book or pulp science fiction novel. The main theme is the contrast between (or union of) the old – ancient civilizations, myth, legend, folklore and the sub-conscious – and the new – technology, bio-mechanics, and science fiction. The element of spectacle, the surreal, and the absurd, as narrative vehicles, also permeate the artworks. All sculptures are cast in bronze and then coloured with a patina. The bases are all cut from different kinds of indigenous stone.

The following sculptures were made for a solo exhibition entitled Ragnarok. All sculptures are cast in bronze and then coloured with a patina. Other materials used were aluminium, steel and glass. The theme was myth and the hero. The mythological or archaic hero is presented as the modern day superhero.
